Petrol Diesel Price 01 January 2026: The central government has given a major gift to the people suffering from inflation on the very first day of the new year. Taking a major decision to provide relief to the general public, the government has drastically reduced the prices of petrol and diesel. This decision of the government is no less than a New Year's gift for the general public. A notification has been issued by the Finance Ministry regarding the reduction in fuel prices, and the new rates will be implemented from today.

Petrol and diesel became cheaper

Petrol Diesel Price 01 January 2026 According to information received, the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority has reduced the price of petrol by 10.28 rupees and the price of diesel by 8.57 rupees. After the price relief, the price of petrol has now been reduced from 263.45 rupees per liter to 253.17 rupees per liter. Meanwhile, the price of diesel has been reduced from 265.65 rupees per liter to 257.08 rupees per liter.

A relief decision for the general public

It should be noted that the General Sales Tax (GST) on all petroleum products is zero, but the Pakistan government charges ₹78 per liter on diesel and ₹82 per liter on petrol and high-octane products in the name of petrol levy and ₹2.50 per liter Climate Support Levy (CSL). The government also imposes a customs duty of approximately ₹16-17 per liter on petrol and HSD, whether locally produced or imported. Additionally, approximately ₹17 per liter in distribution and sales ''>Petrol and HSD revenue earning products

It is worth noting that petrol and HSD are the main revenue-earning products, with average monthly sales of approximately 700,000–800,000 tonnes per month, while the monthly demand for kerosene is only 10,000 tonnes. The government collected approximately ₹1.161 trillion from petroleum levies alone in FY2025, and this is expected to increase by approximately 27% to ₹1.470 trillion in the current fiscal year.
