Pakistani-Origin Doctor and Woman Arrested While Entering Bahraich From Nepal; Border on High Alert After Delhi Blasts

After the bomb blast near Delhi’s Red Fort earlier this week, the Nepal border has been placed on high alert. During an intensive joint checking operation by the SSB and local police in Bahraich, authorities arrested two individuals who had allegedly crossed into India from Nepal without proper clearance. One of them is a Pakistani-origin doctor, while the other is an Indian-origin woman holding UK residency. Both were interrogated by security agencies and later produced before the court on Saturday evening, from where they were sent to jail.

The Red Fort blast on Monday claimed several lives and injured over 30 people. Since then, security forces deployed along the Nepal border in Bahraich, which lies in the sensitive Terai region, have been scrutinizing vehicles, travellers, and documentation more rigorously than usual.

On Friday, during heightened checking at the border, officials detained two foreign nationals attempting to enter India. The two arrested individuals were identified as Hassan Amman Salim, a Pakistani citizen currently living on Dalmarton Road in Manchester, UK, and Sumitra Shakeel Olibia, originally from Udupi, Karnataka, now residing on Harcombe Drive, Gloucester, UK. Both are medical professionals.

Following their detention, multiple security agencies reached the spot and questioned them for several hours. According to Station House Officer Ramesh Rawat, a case has been filed against the duo under the Foreigners Act. They were subsequently presented in court. The arrest was carried out by SSB Party Commander Jagat Das along with personnel Rani Kumari, T. Yamuna, and Jyoti Singh.
