State-owned telecom company Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has started preparing to launch a new feature for its users. The state-owned telecom operator has started testing CNAP i.e. Caller Name Presentation. According to the report, this new feature is being tested on a priority basis in some telecom circles. Private telecom companies Airtel, Jio and Vi have already rolled out the CNAP service in many telecom circles. Under this feature, when users receive a call from an unknown number, the name of the person on the other side appears on the screen. Truecaller is not required for this.
BSNL launches new feature
Telecom regulator TRAI has directed telecom operators to roll out the CNAP service. This service was directed to identify fraud and scam calls from unknown numbers. This will allow users to understand who is calling them even if they don't have Truecaller. In accordance with TRAI's order, Airtel, Jio, and Vodafone Idea have launched this service in phases in different telecom circles. Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited has currently begun testing the CNAP service in collaboration with private telecom operators. A sector executive has claimed that BSNL has started testing this service in phases in each area with the help of private telecom companies. After completion of these tests, the service will be launched across India in the next 3 to 4 months. C-DOT has developed this solution for CNAP for BSNL.
What is CNAP service?
CNAP stands for Caller Name Presentation Service, in which the name of the caller is displayed in the incoming calls on the phone. The name which the caller has written in the customer acquisition form while purchasing the SIM, the same name is displayed on the user's screen. With the help of this service, the name of any unknown caller is displayed on the user's screen. This can protect the users from scam and fraud calls. Earlier, telecom operators had opposed the launch of CNAP service and said that this service may affect the privacy of the users. However, as per the recommendation of TRAI, this service is being launched later.
State-owned telecom company BSNL recently launched its VoWiFi service, which allows users to make calls even in areas where there is no network. VoWiFi stands for Voice over Wi-Fi. Under this service, users will be able to make calls even when their devices have broadband internet, or WiFi connectivity. This way, users won't miss important calls even in areas with poor network coverage.
