"No Even After Victory": Gautam Gambhir Shares What Keeps Him Awake as India's Head Coach

Gautam Gambhir, the newly appointed head coach of the Indian cricket team, says he finds no peace even after a win. In a revealing conversation with Cheteshwar Pujara during the India-England series, Gambhir said that his mind is constantly working and he remains completely focused on the team — even moments after a match is won.

Gambhir said, "Whenever we win a match, the first thing on my mind is what the playing XI should be for the next game. I never switch off. I always think about the team. It’s really funny — we had just won a Test match, and I was already thinking about the next one."

The former India opener further added that even after reaching his room, his thoughts revolved around the team combination. "I was wondering how it would all work out. When I am on a tour, I am switched on every single day."

He also responded to criticism about the timing of India’s declaration in the Edgbaston Test, saying, "You can have your own thinking, and criticism is expected when things don’t go your way. But our goal was to force England into a defensive mindset — to make them survive 100 overs, which is something they’ve never done before."

Currently, the five-match Test series between India and England is level at 1-1. After a loss in the first Test, India bounced back strongly in the second. With three matches left, both teams are looking to gain an upper hand in what promises to be a hard-fought series.
