No Console, No PC Needed: Nvidia Brings High-End Gaming to Your TV With New GeForce Now App

In a big boost for cloud gaming, Nvidia has launched its GeForce Now app for select Amazon Fire TV Stick models. With this move, users can now enjoy premium AAA games directly on their television—without owning a gaming console or a powerful PC. All that’s required is a compatible Fire TV Stick, a controller, and a fast, stable internet connection.

This development is especially important as Nvidia gears up for the much-anticipated launch of GeForce Now in India.


Supported Fire TV Stick models

Nvidia has confirmed that the GeForce Now app is currently supported on select Fire TV devices, including:

  • Fire TV Stick 4K Plus (2nd Gen)

  • Fire TV Stick 4K Max (2nd Gen)

  • Fire TV Stick 4K Max (1st Gen) with updated Fire OS

The company has also hinted that support for more Fire TV devices will be added in the future. Until now, GeForce Now was largely limited to PCs, laptops, smartphones, and a few smart TVs.


Turn your TV into a gaming screen

With the new app, games are streamed directly from Nvidia’s cloud servers rather than running on the Fire TV hardware itself. Users can enjoy gameplay at up to 1080p resolution and 60fps, using H.264 video encoding and stereo audio for smooth performance.

A compatible game controller can be connected to the Fire TV Stick, instantly transforming a regular TV into a full-fledged gaming setup—without the need for expensive CPUs or GPUs.


India launch signals and rising competition

Nvidia recently showcased GeForce Now in India and hinted that the official launch is not far away. The Fire TV app rollout is widely seen as part of these preparations. The company has also expanded support to Linux devices, further strengthening its ecosystem.

Meanwhile, competition in cloud gaming is heating up, with services like Xbox Cloud Gaming already active in the space. As cloud gaming gains traction, Indian gamers could soon access console-level gaming experiences at a fraction of the hardware cost.
