Prime Minister Narendra Modi has inaugurated 184 state-of-the-art Type-VII multi-storey flats for Members of Parliament at Baba Kharak Singh Marg, New Delhi. These newly constructed flats are designed to eliminate the persistent housing shortage for MPs with a focus on modernity, sustainability, and optimal land use in the heart of the capital.
Key Specialties of the New MP Flats:
-
Spacious Layout:
Each flat offers about 5,000sqft of carpet area, making them even larger than the prestigious Type-VIII bungalows, with dedicated spaces for living, office work, and staff accommodation. -
Modern, Self-Sufficient Complex:
The campus houses four towers named Krishna, Godavari, Kosi, and Hooghly. It includes a community center for social and official events, enabling MPs to fulfill their public duties conveniently. -
Vertical, Eco-Friendly Construction:
Built vertical due to limited land, these flats use monolithic concrete with aluminum shuttering for durability and speedy completion, optimizing land use, and minimizing future maintenance costs. -
Green Technology and Certification:
The project follows the National Building Code (NBC) 2016 and holds a GRIHA 3-star green building rating, ensuring maximum energy-efficiency, use of renewable resources, and an advanced waste management system. -
Safety and Accessibility:
All buildings are constructed to be earthquake resistant using the latest structural standards and feature robust security arrangements. The complex is also fully accessible for persons with disabilities (Divyangjan-friendly). -
Location Advantage:
The residential block is conveniently near the Parliament House Complex for easy and quick access, streamlining MPs’ daily commutes and official work.
During the inauguration, PM Modi planted a vermilion (Sindoor) sapling at the site and met the construction workers. He emphasized that this complex will allow MPs “to focus on their work without worrying about housing” and symbolized India’s commitment to sustainable, modern development.
In summary, these Type-VII flats represent a significant leap in the provision of accommodation for MPs, featuring superb spaciousness, green technology, inclusive design, and enhanced security—all developed to the highest modern standards.
