A tragic hit-and-run incident in Delhi’s Dwarka has left a family shattered and raised serious questions about road safety and accountability, especially involving minors behind the wheel.
Twenty-three-year-old Sahil Dhansher lost his life after being hit by a speeding SUV. His mother, Inna Makan, broke down while recounting the moments that followed the crash.
“My Sahil lay writhing in pain on the road for nearly 10 minutes, crying for help. An ambulance and several people were present, but no one came forward to save him,” she said through tears.
According to the family, by the time Inna Makan was informed and reached the spot, Sahil’s condition had deteriorated severely. He died before he could be taken to the hospital.
SUV Had 13 Challans, Driven by Minor
Police investigations have revealed disturbing details. The SUV involved in the accident already had 13 traffic challans, most of them for speeding, issued in Uttar Pradesh and Delhi—pointing to habitual traffic violations.
More shockingly, the vehicle was allegedly being driven by a minor without a driving licence at the time of the accident on February 3. The impact was so severe that after hitting Sahil’s motorcycle, the SUV rammed into a parked cab, leaving the cab driver seriously injured.
Accused Minor Granted Interim Bail
Adding to the family’s anguish, the accused minor has been granted interim bail, reportedly citing upcoming board examinations. Calling it a cruel irony, Inna Makan said she was performing her son’s last rites while the accused walked free.
The family has now demanded a fair and time-bound investigation, stressing that justice for Sahil is essential to ensure no other parent has to lose a child to reckless and illegal driving.
The case has triggered widespread outrage on social media and renewed calls for stricter enforcement against unlicensed driving and leniency in cases involving minors.
