Relief is now expected from the cooking gas shortage caused by the US-Israel-Iran war and the resulting closure of the Strait of Hormuz. According to media reports, two LPG-laden ships from the UAE and a crude oil tanker from Saudi Arabia have departed for India.
Two ships arriving
According to media reports, Indian-flagged vessels MV Jag Vasant and MV Pine Gas departed for India from UAE ports at 6 am on Monday. The two ships, traveling together at a distance of about five nautical miles, safely transited the sensitive Strait of Hormuz after receiving permission from Iran. The ships are carrying a total of 92,612.59 metric tonnes of LPG, which can fill approximately 65 lakh domestic LPG cylinders.
These two ships, carrying 33 and 27 Indian sailors, are expected to arrive in two days.
MV Jag Vasant is expected to arrive at Kandla Port on March 26th, while MV Pine Gas will reach New Mangalore by March 28th. These ships will be escorted by Indian Navy warships for 24 hours in the Gulf of Oman region, after which they will proceed towards India's western coast. This security arrangement is considered crucial amid the ongoing missile and drone attacks.
