Last Patrol Turns Fatal: Speeding Car Hits Police Van in Sri Ganganagar, Woman SHO Killed

A tragic road accident claimed the life of a woman Station House Officer (SHO) during early-morning patrolling in Rajasthan’s Sri Ganganagar district on Wednesday. A speeding car rammed into a police patrol van, killing SHO Jyoti Nayak on the spot and leaving another police officer and the car driver seriously injured.

According to police officials, the accident occurred around 5 a.m. at the Payal Theatre Road intersection. SHO Jyoti Nayak was patrolling the city with her team and was traveling from Kisan Chowk towards Ramesh Chowk when an out-of-control car bearing a Haryana registration number crashed into the police vehicle.

The impact was so severe that the patrol van overturned on the road.

Wave of Mourning in Police Department

Eyewitnesses and police sources said the collision caused the van to flip over, resulting in fatal injuries to SHO Jyoti Nayak, who was seated in the driver’s seat. Her head was crushed due to the force of the impact, leading to her death at the scene. The accident created panic in the area, and local residents rushed forward to help.

Upon receiving information, senior police officials, including Superintendent of Police Amrita Duhan and City Kotwal Prithvipal Singh, reached the hospital and the accident site. SP Amrita Duhan expressed deep grief over the loss, calling it a tragic blow to the police force.

Police confirmed that the driver of the car involved in the accident is a resident of the Khajuwala area of Bikaner. The injured police officer and the car driver are currently undergoing treatment at the district hospital. The offending vehicle reportedly came to a halt a few meters away after hitting another vehicle following the initial collision.

Investigation Underway

Police have registered a case and initiated an investigation to determine the cause of the accident. Authorities are examining whether the driver was under the influence of alcohol or lost control due to excessive speed. Officials said all aspects of the incident are being thoroughly investigated.
