Rishabh Shetty’s much-awaited Kantara Chapter 1, currently clashing in theaters with Varun Dhawan’s Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari, has already become a hot topic on social media. While both films are attracting attention, Kantara Chapter 1 is generating immense buzz among audiences, and now its OTT release details have also surfaced.
Amazon Prime Video Acquires Rights
According to reports, Amazon Prime Video has acquired the digital streaming rights of Kantara Chapter 1 in a massive deal worth ₹125 crore. This makes it the second costliest OTT acquisition for a Kannada film, only behind Yash’s KGF 2. The film will be made available on the platform in multiple languages — Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Hindi.
Possible OTT Launch Timeline
Generally, films arrive on OTT platforms around four weeks after their theatrical run. Based on performance, Kantara Chapter 1 could stream on Amazon Prime Video sometime in October or November 2025.
Rishabh Shetty’s Profit-Sharing Model
Interestingly, Rishabh Shetty, who has both directed and written the film, has not charged any upfront fee. Instead, he is working on a profit-sharing model, meaning his earnings depend entirely on the film’s box office performance. If the film succeeds, Shetty stands to benefit handsomely; if not, he absorbs the financial risk.
With theatrical collections off to a promising start and a mega-OTT deal already in place, Kantara Chapter 1 looks set to continue the blockbuster legacy of the franchise.
