Kanpur Murder Case : ‘I slept while he destroyed everything’—Brutality of murderous father & the painful statement of the helpless mother!

Kanpur News: In Kanpur district of Uttar Pradesh, a father murdered his 11-year-old twin daughters by slitting their throats. The incident came to light when the mother woke up in the morning and found her daughters dead in a pool of blood. This crime has devastated the family of 5 people, which includes parents, 2 daughters and a younger son. Reshma, who came to Kanpur from Siliguri, West Bengal, was married to 48-year-old Shashi Ranjan Mishra in 2014. With a choked voice, Reshma described her life which slowly started falling apart behind closed doors.

The family lived in a rented flat in Kidwai Nagar and had lost touch with routine. She slept in a separate room with her 6-year-old son, while her husband shared another with their twin daughters. Mishra, once a medical representative (MR), had quit his job a few years ago to start his own business but had recently become unemployed. Reshma, who previously worked in a beauty parlor, was currently unemployed.

According to Reshma, their marriage had been strained for years. Mishra’s suspicions had grown, and he had installed CCTV cameras throughout the house, accusing her of infidelity. Mishra drank alcohol, took sleeping pills, and struggled with depression, especially after his mother’s death. Reshma told police that he had previously said he would take his own life and even talked about dying with the children. On the night of the incident, Mishra took his daughters to his room, as he often did. Reshma said she fell asleep with her son. CCTV footage later showed Mishra taking one of the girls to the toilet around 2:30 a.m. and returning, indicating that both girls were alive at the time. What happened next is the most horrifying aspect of the incident.

Police said Mishra confessed to mixing sleeping pills in the children’s food, which made them unconscious, and then strangulating them and later slitting their throats with a knife he had purchased the day before. Investigators found no signs of a struggle, further strengthening the suspicion that the girls were unconscious before the attack. Mishra himself called the police around 4:30 a.m. and was found inside the flat when the police arrived. Reshma said she had no knowledge of the murders until the police arrived at her home early in the morning. “I was sleeping. I didn’t even know when it happened,” she told officers.

Based on Reshma’s statement, an FIR was registered at the Naubasta police station. Police officials said the motive for the murder is still unclear, although Mishra cited concerns about his daughters’ future as the reason. Police are investigating mental stress, depression, and financial difficulties as possible motives for the murder. Forensic teams have searched the flat to collect evidence, while CCTV footage is being analyzed to trace the events of the final hours.
