The mysterious death of Rajasthan’s well-known saint Sadhvi Prem Baisa has taken a significant turn. Nearly 20 days after her death, Boranada Police in Jodhpur on Monday registered an FIR against compounder Devi Singh Rajpurohit after the Special Investigation Team (SIT) found substantial evidence of medical negligence.
The SIT, constituted to probe the circumstances surrounding the Sadhvi’s death, carried out extensive questioning over the past three weeks. Statements were recorded from her father, ashram staff, and hospital personnel involved in her treatment.
Changing Statements Raised Suspicion
According to police officials, the accused compounder repeatedly altered his statements during interrogation, raising serious doubts about his role. Investigations revealed that improper injections were administered to the Sadhvi, despite her medical condition.
The medical board report and Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) findings clearly point to gross negligence in both the administration of injections and the overall treatment procedure.
Case Registered for Death Due to Negligence
Based on the SIT findings, Boranada Police have registered a case under Section 106(1) of the Indian Penal Code, which deals with causing death by negligence (earlier known as Section 304A). The provision applies when death occurs without criminal intent but due to rash or negligent acts, such as administering incorrect medication or injections without proper medical authorization.
If found guilty, the accused may face imprisonment of up to two years, a fine, or both.
H-Schedule Injection Under Scrutiny
The SIT sought expert opinions from the medical board regarding the impact of the administered H-schedule injections on asthma patients. The responses further strengthened the case for negligence.
Police officials stated that the accused could be arrested at any time. Investigators are also examining whether other individuals were involved or complicit in the treatment lapses.
