Jammu and Kashmir: Encounter in Udhampur, One Soldier Martyred; Search Operation Intensified

An encounter between security forces and terrorists broke out in the Dudu-Basantgarh area of Udhampur district, Jammu and Kashmir, late Friday evening, resulting in the martyrdom of one soldier.

According to officials, the joint operation by the Indian Army and the Special Operations Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir Police was launched in the high-altitude region spanning Udhampur and the Seoj Dhar forest in Bhaderwah, Doda district. During the search, terrorists opened fire, critically injuring a soldier. He was rushed to the hospital but succumbed to his injuries.

Search Operation Ongoing

Security forces immediately tightened the cordon around the area, and the search resumed on Saturday morning. Officials suspect that two to three terrorists, believed to be affiliated with Jaish-e-Mohammed, are hiding in the dense forest. The operation is being supported by drones and dog squads to track down the militants.

Parallel Search in Kishtwar

In a separate operation in Kishtwar district, an encounter has been underway since Friday night. However, security forces have not yet established contact with the militants.

Wider Anti-Terror Measures

Inputs received by the Army indicate that Jaish terrorists have been attempting to infiltrate the Udhampur region for some time, but their efforts have been thwarted. Following the intelligence reports, the police also carried out searches at eight different locations across the Valley, including Srinagar.

The encounter remains active, with security forces maintaining a strong vigil to neutralize the hiding militants.
