Ahead of the IPL 2026 season, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has issued a fresh set of guidelines for all 10 franchises. Along with on-field regulations, the board has also introduced strict rules concerning practice sessions and the presence of players’ family members during the tournament.
New Guidelines for Players’ Families
As in previous seasons, many players will be accompanied by their families during the two-month-long tournament. However, the BCCI has now set clear boundaries regarding their movement and access.
According to reports, players must travel to practice sessions strictly via the team bus. Family members and friends will not be allowed to accompany them and must use separate vehicles to reach the venue. Additionally, they will not be permitted on the field during practice and can only watch sessions from designated hospitality areas.
Restrictions on Practice Sessions
The BCCI has also tightened rules around training and match-day preparations:
- No team will be allowed to practice on the main ground on match days
- Fitness tests cannot be conducted near the pitch area on match day
- These steps are aimed at preserving pitch conditions and ensuring fairness for both teams
Dress Code and Broadcast Rules
To maintain uniformity and broadcast standards, the board has also enforced certain appearance-related rules:
- Players leading the Orange Cap and Purple Cap standings must wear them during matches
- If a player is not wearing a cap, they must do so for at least the first two overs for broadcast visibility
- Sleeveless jerseys and floppy hats are not allowed during post-match presentations
Penalties for Violations
The BCCI has made it clear that violations of these rules will not be taken lightly. A first-time offence will result in a warning, while repeated breaches could lead to financial penalties.
Conclusion
With IPL 2026 set to begin on March 28, these new regulations highlight the BCCI’s focus on discipline, professionalism, and maintaining high standards both on and off the field. Teams and players will need to strictly adhere to these guidelines throughout the tournament.
