Indore Tragedy: 13-Year-Old Hangs Himself After Losing ₹3,000 in Online Game, Scolded by Mother

A heartbreaking incident has come to light from Anurag Nagar in Indore, where 13-year-old Akalank Jain, a class 7 student, died by suicide after losing ₹3,000 in an online game. According to the police, Akalank was addicted to mobile games like Free Fire. He had used his mother’s debit card to make in-game purchases. When the money was deducted and his mother found out, she scolded him. Moments later, he locked himself in his room.
Younger Brother Found the Body
After some time, Akalank’s younger brother Avikal went to check on him. What he saw left him screaming in shock—Akalank had hanged himself. The family rushed him to the hospital, but it was too late.
A Child with Dreams
Just two days earlier, the family had celebrated Akalank's birthday. His father, Ankesh Jain, is a well-known auto parts businessman in Indore. Akalank had big dreams—he wanted to become a footballer and represent India one day. That dream ended in tragedy.
A Larger Crisis
Akalank’s case isn’t isolated. In recent months, over 10 similar cases of children pushed to the edge due to online gaming addiction have surfaced in Indore alone. What once began as entertainment has now become a serious threat to children’s mental health, raising urgent questions:
