After the massacre of Hindu tourists in the Baisaran Valley of Pahalgam in Jammu and Kashmir, efforts have been started to improve the security of the border with Pakistan. India is going to make such arrangements in the border areas, which will make it difficult for the Pakistani army and terrorists to infiltrate. Along with this, upgraded posts will also be arranged for the BSF soldiers deployed round the clock on the border. The government has given the green signal to the proposal to release a fund of Rs 1500 crore for this.
Given the increasing tension between India and Pakistan, the Government of India has started working on a plan to rapidly develop important infrastructure in the border areas. Its purpose is to strengthen national security and prevent incidents of infiltration. After the recent high-level meetings, serious steps have been taken in this direction. The Finance and Home Ministries are jointly making efforts to complete projects like roads, fencing, and surveillance systems in the border areas soon. These projects are being implemented at a cost of about Rs 1,500 crore. In this, the existing border fence of more than 500 km will be replaced with high-quality, multilayer, and modular material. This step has been taken given the recent terrorist attacks in Rajouri and Poonch.
The High-Level Empowered Committee (HLEC) has approved border projects in Samba, Indreshvar Nagar, and Kathua in Jammu and Kashmir, Ferozepur, and Abohar areas of Punjab. These also include the construction of roads connecting Border Out Posts (BOPs) to the main border, which will speed up the movement of security forces. Apart from this, bulletproof sentry posts are also being built for the safety of Border Security Force (BSF) personnel. This decision has been taken after incidents of unprovoked firing by Pakistan Rangers. Rs 500 crore will be spent on layered fencing, wall fencing, high-power LED lights, and armored underground cabling for special sandy areas in Rajasthan.
The convenience of the soldiers will also increase.
A new water storage and supply system is also being prepared for Rs 160 crore to overcome the difficulties in supplying drinking water to the soldiers deployed on the border. Till now, water was supplied to these areas through temporary tankers, which was an expensive and unstable solution. These efforts of the government are being seen as a strategic change in India's border security policy. This initiative reflects the government's priority towards security to deal with traditional infiltration as well as new challenges. The rapid implementation of these projects will give a new strength to the protective preparations in the border areas.
The situation changed after the Pahalgam attack.
Terrorists killed tourists based on religion in the Baisaran Valley of Pahalgam in Jammu and Kashmir. After this, India launched Operation Sindoor. The Indian Armed Forces carried out air strikes and destroyed many terrorist hideouts. Along with this, 11 airbases of Pakistan were also destroyed.
