IND vs ENG: This Player Almost Cut Off His Own Toe, The Reason Is Shocking

England fast bowler Brydon Carse recently revealed a shocking truth about his persistent foot injury. The 29-year-old faced such severe pain and infection in his left foot’s second toe that he seriously considered amputating it himself. Carse suffered deep wounds on that toe due to repeated impact with the front leg crease while bowling. This injury kept him out of the Champions Trophy and IPL 2025. Ahead of the India-England series, Carse shared how close he came to taking this drastic step.
Speaking to the BBC, Carse said, “At one point before going to sleep, I was thinking, ‘I think I can do it — I think I can cut off my other finger (toe),’ but then the medical staff told me I needed it for balance, so it was quickly ruled out.” The injury forced him to leave the Champions Trophy mid-tournament in Pakistan and give up his IPL contract with Sunrisers Hyderabad. He underwent three to four different antibiotic treatments over six to eight weeks as the wound kept getting infected.
Instead of amputating the toe, Carse chose less extreme methods on medical advice. He switched to narrower shoes, drilled new holes for laces in different places, and used specially designed insoles to relieve pressure. The long break from February to May also helped him recover. Carse made his first-class comeback in late May and played a vital role in England’s 3-0 ODI series win over West Indies. He is now gearing up for the T20 series against West Indies and will also feature in the upcoming Test match against India in Leeds starting June 20.
Carse’s story is a remarkable example of determination and managing pain while maintaining performance at the highest level.
