In today's time, the problem of high blood pressure has become very common due to poor eating habits and lifestyle. High blood pressure is a silent killer condition. When blood pressure increases, the risk of many fatal heart-related diseases including heart attack, heart failure and stroke also increases. It slowly damages the body from inside without any major symptoms. In such a situation, it is very important to control it in time. Ayurveda expert Acharya Balkrishna has told some of the best foods to control blood pressure, by consuming which BP can be controlled.

Acharya Balkrishna told that high blood pressure or hypertension is a name which 7 out of 10 people suffer from. High blood pressure is usually considered a condition of the elderly. However, studies in recent years have indicated its dangerous prevalence among young people in their 20s and 30s. Normal blood pressure is usually less than 120/80 mmHg. Readings above this indicate high blood pressure. However, blood pressure can be kept under control by making some changes in lifestyle and including certain natural foods in the diet.

Soaked nuts

Eating dry fruits is beneficial for high BP. Dry fruits contain omega-3 fatty acids, which help in maintaining good heart health. If your blood pressure is high, then definitely include nuts in your diet. You can consume soaked almonds and walnuts every morning on an empty stomach. Soaked almonds and walnuts contain magnesium, potassium and healthy fats, which keep the heart healthy and control BP.

Eat fruits and vegetables

To keep blood pressure under control, vegetables should be included in the diet. If you have a problem of high blood pressure, eat lots of vegetables. But, use less salt while cooking vegetables. Gravy vegetables are more beneficial for people with high blood pressure. Spinach, broccoli, gourd, beans, banana, papaya, watermelon and orange – all are beneficial for people with high BP.

Barley flour

Barley flour is very beneficial for high BP patients. Barley contains a fiber called beta-glucan, which reduces cholesterol and controls blood pressure. Make rotis by mixing 20-30% barley flour in wheat flour. It also keeps the stomach clean and keeps the weight under control.

Limited salt intake

Patients with high BP should reduce their salt intake to a great extent. People with high BP should consume less than 5 grams of salt in a day. Apart from this, consumption of processed food and salt-rich foods like pickles and chutney should also be avoided.

At the same time, Dr. Bimal Jhajjar, former consultant of AIIMS and founder and director of Saaol Heart Center, said that if your  cholesterol  is high, then you should avoid consuming animal foods.
