Husband Beats Wife to Death with Hand Pump Handle After She Refuses Money for Alcohol in Gorakhpur

In a shocking incident from the Jungle Chhatrdhari area of Pipraich police station, a man allegedly beat his wife to death with the handle of a hand pump after she refused to give him money for alcohol. The horrifying crime occurred while the couple's three children were sleeping on the roof of their home.

The deceased has been identified as Neelam, while the accused husband is Sunny. After committing the murder, Sunny fled the scene. On Friday morning, the children discovered their mother's lifeless body when they came down from the roof.

Upon receiving the information, police and a forensic team arrived at the spot. The police have taken the body into custody and sent it for post-mortem examination. A case has been registered based on the complaint filed by the deceased's brother, and authorities are actively searching for the accused husband.

Money for Alcohol and a Bank Account

Investigations revealed that the underlying motive for the fatal assault was Sunny's demand for money to fuel his alcohol habit. His wife, Neelam, had deposited ₹2.5 lakh (approximately USD 3,000) in her bank account, money she had received from the sale of ancestral land. Sunny, who had recently returned home from Bangalore after spending a significant portion of his own share of the land sale proceeds on alcohol, had set his sights on this money, which Neelam was refusing to hand over.

The accused, Sunny, is one of three brothers. His two brothers live separately. Sunny has three children: a 12-year-old daughter and two sons aged 9 and 6. Since his return from Bangalore a week prior, he had reportedly been constantly intoxicated.

Drunken Rage Leads to Heinous Crime

On Thursday night, Sunny returned home drunk and once again demanded money from Neelam. When she refused, a heated argument ensued, escalating into a physical altercation. The children, witnessing the dispute, became distressed and went up to the roof to sleep. Once they were asleep, Sunny came back down and renewed his demands for money from his wife.

When Neelam stood firm in her refusal, Sunny brutally attacked her with the handle of a hand pump, beating her to death. He had reportedly increased the volume of the television to muffle any sounds.

On Friday morning, the children's discovery of their mother's body led to their elder uncle being informed, who then alerted the police. After the murder, Sunny reportedly asked his brother for ₹5,000 to leave but fled on foot when his brother claimed to have no money. SHO Purushottam Singh stated that efforts are underway to apprehend the accused husband soon.
