Hormuz Crisis: Efforts to bring the body of Captain Rakesh Ranjan Singh (47) of the ship "Awana," stranded in the Strait of Hormuz, from Dubai to India have intensified. Minister of State for Defense Sanjay Seth has contacted the Ministry of External Affairs in this matter. This initiative was taken following a letter written by the captain's eldest son, Pravar Singh (20), requesting government intervention. Following the minister's intervention, it is hoped that the body will be brought to India soon.
Died of heart attack, body kept in Dubai
According to reports, Captain Rakesh Ranjan Singh died of a heart attack on March 18th. His ship, the Avana, was stranded in the Strait of Hormuz at the time. His body is currently in the mortuary at Dubai's Port Sheikh Rashid Hospital. The family is in deep shock as his body has not been returned to India even after three days.
The family is in a bad state, crying
At Vasundhara Apartments in Argora, Ranchi, Captain's wife, Ranju Kumari, is inconsolable. Their younger son, Adhish Pratap Singh (15), is also becoming increasingly emotional as he remembers his father. Their elder son, Pravar Singh, who is studying engineering in Bengaluru, has arrived in Ranchi after receiving the tragic news. The family is in a dire state and emotionally devastated.
The son wrote a letter asking for government help.
The Captain's eldest son, Pravar Singh, has written to Minister of State for Defense Sanjay Seth, requesting assistance from the Indian government. He requested that the process of bringing his father's body back to India be expedited. He also stated that his father was the sole breadwinner of the family, and the family is facing a severe financial crisis. He also requested financial assistance from the government.
The ship was stranded due to the war and no help was forthcoming.
Captain Rakesh Ranjan Singh's ship had loaded oil from Dubai Port and departed for India. The ship had only sailed about 60 kilometers into the sea when the Iran-Israel war broke out. Iran subsequently closed the Strait of Hormuz, leaving the ship stranded. During this time, the captain's health suddenly deteriorated.
Air ambulance was not available, help arrived late
When the captain's health deteriorated, other officers on board requested an air ambulance from Dubai Airport's ATC. However, due to the war-like emergency, ATC refused permission. The captain was subsequently brought to Dubai Port by boat, but by then it was too late and his life could not be saved.
Family members arrived from Bihar, preparations for the last rites
Captain Rakesh Ranjan Singh's ancestral home is in Bihar Sharif, Nalanda district, Bihar. Upon learning of the incident, his family members have arrived in Ranchi. The family wishes to have his body brought back to India as soon as possible so that his last rites can be performed with full respect at his ancestral home.
Hoping for quick action from the government
The family and local residents have demanded immediate action from the central government. They say that while the process of bringing the body back to India has begun, the delay is causing them mental and emotional distress. Therefore, it is imperative that the relevant departments take swift action.
A test of humanity and sensitivity
This case is not just a family's grief, but also a test of the government and administration's sensitivity. It is the government's responsibility to respectfully return the mortal remains of an Indian citizen who was abroad performing his duty. All eyes are now on the time when Captain Rakesh Ranjan Singh's body will reach India and the family will find relief.
