Heavy rains wreak havoc in Maharashtra, 8 dead, Uddhav demands Rs 10,000 crore from the Centre

Marathwada Flood: Heavy rains and the release of water from dams in Maharashtra's Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Jalna, and Beed districts have caused flood-like conditions along the Godavari River. Eight people have been confirmed dead so far.

Rains have wreaked havoc in Maharashtra's Marathwada region. According to official figures, eight people have died so far, while crops across more than 33,000 hectares have been damaged. Meanwhile, Shiv Sena (UBT) chief and former Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray has demanded a relief package of ₹10,000 crore from the central government for flood-hit Marathwada.

Uddhav Thackeray said that when the government deposits compensation funds into victims' accounts, banks should not be allowed to deduct loan installments from the funds. He said that this compensation is solely for the victims' relief, and therefore farmers should receive its full benefit. Meanwhile, NCP (Sharadchandra Pawar) chief and former Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar has also appealed to the government to provide immediate assistance to the affected farmers.

2215 crore will be deposited in the accounts of 31 lakh farmers- Fadnavis

Heavy rains and the release of water from dams in Maharashtra's Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Jalna, and Beed districts have led to a flood-like situation in the Godavari River basin. Meanwhile, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis reviewed the flood situation at a state cabinet meeting in Mumbai today. He assured the government that the government will provide all possible assistance to affected farmers. He stated that the flood situation in Maharashtra was discussed in detail at the cabinet meeting today. Overall, 975 mm of rainfall has fallen so far, which is 102 percent of the average. Dharashiv, Ahilyanagar, Jalgaon, Solapur, Beed, and Parbhani districts have received particularly heavy rainfall over the past few days. In Dharashiv, people were evacuated by helicopter with the help of the NDRF. The government has made arrangements for food and shelter for the affected people. Approximately 17 divisions of the NRF and SDRF are involved in the rescue operation.

He further said, "In addition, we have decided to provide immediate compensation to farmers. To this end, we are releasing funds based on the reports we receive. So far, the state government has issued GRs (Regulation and Regulation) worth ₹2,215 crore, which will benefit 31.64 lakh affected farmers in the state. Of this, ₹1,829 crore has been distributed, and the remaining funds will be distributed within a day or two. This money will then be transferred to farmers' accounts within the next ten days."

Ministers instructed to visit

CM Fadnavis said, "This work hasn't stopped, and reports are being prepared for areas currently experiencing rainfall. This work hasn't stopped anywhere. If a report comes in from even one taluka, the government is providing assistance to that taluka as well."

He said, "Government ministers will visit flood-affected areas again tomorrow to meet with the people. I and both deputy chief ministers will also be visiting the flood-affected areas. Our government stands with the farmers and is trying to provide them with as much assistance as possible."

The origin and cause of the explosions shown in the circulated video are not yet clear.
