Government's new rule for LPG and PNG; these families will not receive cylinders, with updates on new connections also available

The central government has announced new rules for LPG and PNG gas consumers. This will directly impact those with dual domestic gas connections. The government has implemented new regulations for those who use both LPG gas cylinders and pipelines. Furthermore, e-KYC has now become mandatory. Failure to complete e-KYC will directly impact those seeking new connections and those booking cylinders.

The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas on Saturday announced a significant change in the supply of domestic cooking gas (LPG). According to the new rules, households that already have piped natural gas (PNG) connections will no longer be provided with domestic LPG cylinders. Customers who have both PNG and LPG connections will be required to surrender their LPG connections immediately. The government released official rules in this regard on Saturday.

What exactly are the changes in the new rules?
The government has made eKYC mandatory for those with gas connections. Families that haven't yet updated their biometric identification (e-KYC) will face difficulties obtaining a new gas connection. If the Aadhaar card isn't linked or there's a discrepancy in the address, getting a new cylinder will be difficult.

Otherwise, bookings will be stopped -
Old LPG customers must update their KYC within a specified timeframe. Otherwise, their gas cylinder bookings may be stopped. The government has taken this decision to curb the black marketing of gas. Furthermore, this decision will also prevent multiple gas connections in the same person's name.

What decision did the government finally take?

Now it will be illegal to have both PNG (PNG-pipe gas) and LPG (LPG cylinder) connections in the same house.

Those who have an active PNG connection will no longer be able to rebook their old LPG cylinder.

Those who have both the facilities will have to surrender their domestic LPG connection immediately.

Piped gas (PNG) customers will no longer be able to apply for a new domestic LPG connection.
