Google is bringing a new kind of fitness wearable to India. The company has confirmed that the Fitbit Air, its screen-free fitness tracker, will launch in the country in October 2026.
Unlike conventional smartwatches and fitness bands, the Fitbit Air does not have a display. Instead, it is designed to quietly collect health and fitness data in the 't have to manually activate a tracking mode before going to bed.
The idea is to make health tracking more seamless by allowing the device to collect information throughout the day and night.
No screen means fewer distractions
The lack of a display is one of the Fitbit Air's biggest selling points.
Traditional smartwatches can encourage users to repeatedly check notifications, messages, calls, and health statistics. Fitbit Air takes the opposite approach by removing the screen completely.
Users can therefore wear the device throughout the day without being interrupted by notifications on their wrist. Health information can instead be reviewed later through the accompanying software.
Google Health features add more value
In international markets, the Fitbit Air comes with a three-month trial of Google Health Premium.
Users can also access Google's AI-powered Health Coach features, which are designed to turn collected health and fitness data into more personalized insights and guidance.
The exact subscription benefits and availability for Indian customers are expected to be clarified closer to the local launch.
What could be the price in India?
Google has not announced the official Indian price of the Fitbit Air yet.
In selected international markets, the wearable was introduced at a starting price of $99.99, which is roughly equivalent to ₹9,400 before taking local taxes and other costs into account.
Some third-party sellers in India have reportedly listed the device at prices around ₹16,900. However, these listings should not be considered an indication of Google's official Indian pricing.
The final price, availability, and sales channels are expected to be announced closer to the October launch.
Is a screen-free fitness tracker the future?
The Fitbit Air takes a different approach to wearable technology. Instead of trying to replace a smartwatch, it focuses almost entirely on health and fitness tracking.
For users who want continuous health monitoring but don't want another screen demanding their attention, the concept could be appealing.
With its India launch scheduled for October, the Fitbit Air could offer Indian consumers a new alternative to conventional smartwatches and display-equipped fitness bands.
