Good news for rail passengers, water will now be available at cheaper rates; new Rail Neer prices will be applicable from tomorrow

Indian Railways has reduced the price of Rail Neer following GST reforms. A one-liter bottle manufactured by IRCTC will now cost ₹14, down from ₹15 previously. The price of a 500 ml bottle has also been reduced from ₹10 to ₹9. These new prices will also apply to other branded bottles sold on railway premises and in trains.

Indian Railways has announced a price cut for Rail Neer following GST reforms. According to a notification issued by the Railway Board, the price of a one-liter bottle of Rail Neer, manufactured by the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC), has been reduced from ₹15 to ₹14. The price of a 500 ml bottle of water has been reduced from ₹9 to ₹10.

"The maximum retail price of packaged drinking water bottles 'Rail Neer' will be reduced from Rs 15 to Rs 14 for a one litre bottle and from Rs 10 to Rs 9 for a 500 ml bottle," the notification said.

Rail Neer becomes cheaper

The new price will also be applicable to other 'shortlisted' packaged drinking water bottles of all brands sold on railway premises and trains across the country.

The maximum retail price of packaged water bottles of IRCTC/other brands selected by Railways sold in railway premises/trains will also be reduced from Rs 15 to Rs 14 for a one litre bottle and from Rs 10 to Rs 9 for a 500 ml bottle.

What are GST reforms?

Under the GST reform, which will take effect on September 22nd, most goods and services will be taxed at between 5 and 18 percent. Luxury goods will be taxed at 40 percent. Currently, GST is levied in four slabs: 5, 12, 18, and 28 percent. In addition, a compensation cess is levied on luxury goods and demerit or sin goods.
