Al-Falah University: Faridabad's Al-Falah University is in the news due to allegations of money laundering and fraud worth crores of rupees. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has arrested the university's chairman, Jawad Ahmed Siddiqui, for allegedly extorting crores of rupees from parents in the name of fake accreditation. Jawad has been remanded in ED custody for 13 days. The university has been linked to a major terror module and the Delhi bombings.
Faridabad's Al-Falah University, which has become a hub of terrorism, has been in the news for several days. On Tuesday evening, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) arrested Chairman Jawad Ahmed Siddiqui in a money laundering case. Now, evidence of fraud worth crores of rupees has been found at the university.
The ED alleges that Al-Falah University and the trust that controls it committed fraud totaling at least ₹415.10 crore. Parents of students studying at the university were duped of crores of rupees by falsely claiming accreditation. The court has ordered Jawad Ahmed to be remanded in custody for 13 days.
ED tightens its grip
The ED filed a charge sheet in court seeking Jawad Ahmed's remand. Jawad has been arrested under Section 19 of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). The ED is investigating the case and gathering further evidence. The ED has taken this action under a case filed against the Al-Falah Group on November 14th.

Signs of a scam worth crores found
The ED has examined Al-Falah University's income tax returns from 2014-15 to 2024-25. In these, the trust showed transactions worth crores of rupees as voluntary contributions and educational receipts. The investigation has uncovered evidence of a fraud of Rs 415.10 crore.
ED sought custody
The ED, while requesting Siddiqui's custody, told the court that Jawad Siddiqui's custody was essential to investigate the university's fee structure, donations, fund flow, and illegal funding, including benami properties. Siddiqui wields considerable influence over the trust. Therefore, if his custody is not handed over to the investigating agency, he could tamper with evidence and misappropriate funds. Granting the ED's request, the court granted Jawad's custody to the ED for 13 days.

The Home Ministry has handed over the investigation of this entire case to the NIA.
