Ear Hurt on Planes: What should you do if you get ear pain during flight, know from the doctor..

Ear Hurt on Planes: The Ahmedabad plane crash has shaken the hearts of the entire countrymen. This accident is considered to be the biggest accident in the Indian aviation sector. After the accident, many things are being said about safety on the plane. In such a situation, there is a common problem during air travel - ear pain. People who are traveling in a plane face this problem. Therefore, people who are traveling in a plane for the first time must know why there is a pain in the ears at a height of thousands of feet in the plane and what should be done to avoid it.

It becomes difficult to bear the air pressure.

Dr. Pankaj Kumar, Associate Professor of ENT Department at Dr. Baba Saheb Ambedkar Hospital, said that usually when the plane reaches a height of 35 thousand feet, the atmospheric pressure inside the plane changes. In this situation, the process of the gas environment inside our ears also starts changing. In this, the pressure inside the ear also increases and the protective layer of the ear also starts cracking. That is, it also starts failing to protect. This is the reason why tremendous pain starts in the ear. Some people tolerate it but in some people, this pain becomes more and they are unable to bear it. In some people, the tympanic membrane located in the middle ear also starts getting damaged, due to which blood starts coming out of the ear. This happens more during landing. This is called barotrauma.

The security layer stops working.

Our ear and nose are structured, in it there is an Eustachian tube in the middle. It works like ventilation. This is a tube or pipe that goes to the nose and throat. This tube balances the pressure between the pressure of the outside air and the middle ear. This tube is like a security layer for our ears. When we are on the ground, there is usually no disturbance in its balance. However due to the pressure at height, this tube is unable to withstand the pressure. In such a situation, sometimes the Eustachian tube also gets closed. Due to this, the air pressure is not able to move forward. This situation becomes very dangerous and it causes a lot of pain. However, this doesn't need to happen to everyone. Some people have a thick layer to protect this tube which protects it from this kind of pressure.

More dangerous in infection
Dr. Pankaj Kumar said that if someone already has bacterial or fungal infection in the Eustachian tube, then he is more at risk. There is a mucus lining on the surface of the Eustachian tube. This lining protects the tube. In case of infection, the mucus lining becomes weak. On the other hand, when it feels very cold or there is a sinus infection or some allergy, then this lining gets swollen, due to which the tube starts becoming weak. In such a situation, if you already have an infection in the ears and you travel by air in that condition, then this situation can be dangerous. Therefore, consult a doctor first.

What to do in case of pain
Dr. Pankaj Kumar said that if you increase the movement in the ears, the pressure will decrease. For this, hold the ear with your hands and move it back and forth. At the same time, try to chew something in the mouth vigorously. If there is pain, drink water, and chew gum. All these will give you relief. If you know that there will be pain in the ears or there is any problem related to the ears, then use nasal drops to clean the nose before boarding the plane. This will make breathing easier and will also provide relief from pain. Valsalva breathing will also be beneficial. In this, close the nose and mouth and inflate it, and then slowly let the air come out of the nose. If the pain is not bearable, then keep putting this spray in the nose every half an hour in the plane. If there is a problem in children, then first consult a doctor. Keep feeding the children frequently.
