Before becoming one of Bollywood’s biggest superstars, Salman Khan actually started his journey in the film industry behind the camera—not in front of it. While most fans know him from his blockbuster debut in Maine Pyar Kiya (1989), few are aware that Salman worked as an assistant director on the sets of a Jackie Shroff film.
Salman’s Early Days in Bollywood
In 1988, just before his acting debut, Salman Khan worked as an assistant director on the film Falak, starring Jackie Shroff. Directed by Shashilal K. Nair, this film gave Salman his first hands-on experience in the industry.
During the shoot, Salman was responsible not just for assisting the director but also for looking after Jackie’s costumes and footwear on set. His dedication and hard work laid the groundwork for the close friendship that blossomed between the two actors.
Salman and Jackie’s Bond On and Off Screen
Their connection from those early days remains strong even decades later. After Falak, Salman and Jackie went on to share the screen in several films:
-
Bandhan (1998) – Jackie played Salman’s brother-in-law. The dialogue, “Jo jijaji bolenge, wo main karunga”, became iconic.
-
Kyon Ki (2005)
-
Veer (2010)
-
Radhe: Your Most Wanted Bhai (2021)
Despite starting from humble beginnings, Salman’s journey from assistant director to leading man is nothing short of inspirational.
Still Going Strong at 59
Now, with over three decades in the film industry and countless hits to his name, Salman Khan continues to play lead roles and entertain millions—yet never forgets where he came from. His early experience assisting on Falak remains a little-known yet fascinating chapter in the story of his rise to stardom.
