By-election 2026 Schedule: By-elections in 6 states across the country, voting on 9th and 23rd Apr, Know when result will be out

According to the Election Commission, voting for all these seats will take place in two phases. Some states will vote on April 9th, while others will vote on April 23rd. The election results will be announced on May 4th. 

The Election Commission on Sunday announced the dates for assembly elections in four states and one union territory. By-elections have also been announced for eight assembly seats in six other states. By-elections are held in constituencies where the winning candidate either resigns or passes away.

According to the Election Commission, voting for all these seats will take place in two phases. Some states will vote on April 9th, while others will vote on April 23rd. The election results will be announced on May 4th.

Code of conduct applicable on all seats

With this announcement, the code of conduct has come into effect for all seats. Political parties have also intensified their election preparations following the announcement. Interesting contests are expected on these seats.

The states where voting will take place on April 9 include assembly seats in Goa, Karnataka, Nagaland, and Tripura. All political parties are expected to announce their candidates for these seats.

Additionally, voting will take place on April 23rd for the Gujarat and Maharashtra assembly seats. There is also heightened activity in these constituencies. Political parties can no longer delay announcing their candidates. Counting of votes for these seats will take place on May 4th, just like in other states.

What other information did the Chief Election Commissioner give?

Announcing the election dates, Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar stated that voting will take place at 2.19 lakh polling stations across four states and one union territory, where 2.5 million election officials will be deployed. He noted that the average number of voters per polling station in Assam, Kerala, Puducherry, Tamil Nadu, and West Bengal is 750-900. He added that presiding officers deployed at all polling stations will upload voting percentages every two hours, and voting data will be uploaded immediately after the election ends.
