Big blow to former Pakistan PM Imran, 7 close leaders sentenced to 10 years

Pakistan News: Former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan has suffered a major setback. A hearing was held in Lahore's anti-terrorism court on Tuesday against 7 big leaders of Khan's party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI). During this, all the leaders have been sentenced to 10 years each.
These leaders got 10 years' sentence
The Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) of Lahore, Pakistan, has sentenced Senator Ejaz Chaudhry, former provincial ministers Yasmin Rashid and Mahmoodur Rashid, former Punjab Governor Sarfraz Cheema, along with lawyer Azim Pahat, to 10 years of imprisonment each.
Convicted in many cases under terrorism
The leaders who have been sentenced were charged in several cases under terrorism, including charges of damaging public property, inciting violence, provoking and plotting an attack on the army. These leaders have been sentenced to 10 years of imprisonment for protesting against the violence that took place on May 9, 2023.
There was a lot of uproar in Pakistan after Imran's arrest
Former Prime Minister Imran Khan was arrested by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) in Islamabad on 9 May 2023 in corruption cases. Protesting against the arrest, PTI workers and supporters started demonstrations in many cities, including Lahore, Peshawar and Rawalpindi. During this, army offices and government properties were targeted.
These leaders are accused of inciting the protesters
Initially, PTI had distanced itself from the protest, but when video and audio evidence were presented, it came to light that these party leaders had instigated the protesters and planned the attack.
