Bank Holidays 2026: Big news for bank customers! Banks will have 15 days of holidays in September, see the full list
If you have any important banking work to do in September, this news is important for you. According to the Reserve Bank of India's (RBI) holiday calendar, bank branches will be closed for several days in September due to festivals, anniversaries, and local circumstances in different states. Additionally, banks are closed every Sunday and the second and fourth Saturdays of the month.
Importantly, bank holidays are not uniform across the country. Holiday dates may vary by state or banking circle. Therefore, it's beneficial to check the holidays for your city or state before visiting a branch.
Banks closed on these dates in September
4 September - Banks will remain closed in many states on the occasion of Janmashtami, Krishna Jayanti.
September 11 – Due to elections in Jaipur Municipal Corporation area, there will be a holiday in the concerned parts of Rajasthan.
September 12 – Banks will remain closed in Assam on the occasion of Tritiya Tithi of Srimanta Sankardev.
September 14 – Banks will remain closed in some states including Maharashtra on Ganesh Chaturthi.
September 15 – Banks will remain closed in some states on the second day of Samvatsari, Nuakhai and Ganesh Chaturthi.
September 21 – There will be a holiday in Assam and Kerala on the occasion of Srimanta Sankardev Birth Anniversary and Sri Narayana Guru Samadhi Day.
September 22 – Banks will remain closed in Jharkhand due to Karma Puja.
September 23 – Banks will remain closed in Jammu and Kashmir on account of Maharaja Hari Singh Jayanti.
September 25 – Banks will remain closed in Sikkim due to Indra Jatra festival.
Furthermore, including Sundays and the second and fourth Saturdays, this doesn't mean banks will be closed for a total of 15 days in September. Furthermore, even if bank branches are closed, online banking services can be used as normal. ATM withdrawals, UPI payments, NEFT, IMPS, and bill payments will remain available. Transactions can also be made through Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm, and BHIM UPI. Therefore, if you need to withdraw cash, deposit a check, or have any branch-related work, it's wise to check the holiday dates in advance and plan accordingly.
