Allegations Against Police in Amethi: Youth Claims Custodial Assault and Theft of Gold Ring

A shocking allegation against the police department has surfaced from Amethi district in Uttar Pradesh, raising serious questions about police conduct. A young man has accused police personnel of forcibly taking him to the police station, assaulting him, and stealing a gold ring he had received from his in-laws.

According to the victim, the incident occurred on December 9. He said that he had gone to Jagdishpur market in the Jamo police station area along with Himanshu, a resident of Sarme village. Around 5 pm, a Scorpio vehicle allegedly arrived suddenly, and he was taken against his will to the Amethi police station.

The youth has made serious allegations against Station House Officer Ravi Singh and constables Saurabh Agrahari and Om Prakash. He claimed that he was beaten inside the police station and that during this time, the police took away a 4-gram gold ring gifted to him by his in-laws. He said the ring holds great emotional value for him.

The victim further alleged that despite making multiple visits to the police station to recover the ring, no action was taken. Instead, he claims he was threatened and pressured to “settle” the matter by giving the police a silver ring. Feeling helpless and denied justice, the youth has now approached the Human Rights Commission and also written to the Chief Minister, demanding action against the accused policemen.

Meanwhile, the police have denied the allegations. Circle Officer Manoj Mishra stated that the young man was brought to the police station only for questioning in connection with a case. He termed the allegations regarding assault and theft of the gold ring as baseless.
