Abhishek Sharma produced a breathtaking display of power-hitting in the third T20I against New Zealand, leaving not just the bowlers but even the opposition players stunned.
Chasing a target of 154, India wrapped up the match in just 10 overs, thanks largely to Abhishek’s explosive unbeaten 68 off just 20 balls. His knock included 7 fours and 5 sixes, as India won by 8 wickets with 60 balls to spare.
Fastest fifty after Yuvraj Singh
Abhishek reached his half-century in just 14 balls, becoming the second Indian after Yuvraj Singh to score the fastest T20I fifty for India. He didn’t slow down after that, continuing the assault until the game was finished.
Captain Suryakumar Yadav played the perfect supporting role, scoring 57 off 26 balls, as the duo stitched an unbeaten 102-run partnership in just 40 balls.
New Zealand players check Abhishek’s bat
The most talked-about moment came after the match. As Abhishek was walking back following India’s dominant win, Devon Conway, Jacob Duffy, and Mitchell Santner approached him and began examining his bat.
The Kiwi players were seen holding the bat by the handle, turning it around, and inspecting it closely before handing it back—apparently trying to figure out how the ball was flying off it with such ease. The moment was caught on camera and has since gone viral on social media.
Fans online joked that such scenes were last seen during the Sachin Tendulkar era, when opposition players would check bats in disbelief.
Abhishek Sharma’s red-hot form
In the first three matches of the five-T20I series, Abhishek has scored 152 runs, including two half-centuries. Earlier in the series, he smashed 84 off 35 balls in Nagpur at a strike rate of 240, hitting eight sixes.
With two matches still to play, all eyes will be on Abhishek Sharma to see if the fireworks continue.
