If you are tired of visiting Aadhaar Centres and standing in long queues for even a small update, UIDAI’s new Aadhaar App is going to make your life much easier. With this new app, you will soon be able to update your Aadhaar address from home, without visiting any enrollment or update centre. This means UIDAI has now simplified and fast-tracked the Aadhaar update process.
UIDAI recently posted on X (Twitter) encouraging people to use the new app and share their feedback at feedback.app@uidai.net.in. Based on this feedback, UIDAI will fix bugs or issues to offer a better user experience. Once the feature is fully rolled out, users will be able to update their address easily while sitting at home.
What was the earlier method of updating the address?
Before this new feature, citizens had only two options:
• Visit the official UIDAI website
• Or go physically to an Aadhaar Centre
To update the address online, users needed to log in with their Aadhaar number and OTP received on their registered mobile number. After that, they had to upload valid address-proof documents and wait for verification.
Documents required for Aadhaar address update
To change the address, users have to upload any one of the following documents:
• Electricity or water bill (not older than 3 months)
• Property tax receipt
• Passport
• Bank passbook or bank statement
• Ration card
• Rent agreement
• Driving licence
• Voter ID card
After uploading the documents, UIDAI usually takes 7–10 working days to verify them. Applicants also receive a URN (Update Request Number) to track the status.
New update: Address change directly through the app
UIDAI’s upcoming Aadhaar App feature will allow users to update their address instantly, without uploading documents on the website or visiting a physical centre. All updates can be completed from the app itself, making the entire process faster and more convenient.
UIDAI has already invited early users to try the app and share their feedback. Once the rollout is complete, Aadhaar address updates will become completely hassle-free for everyone.
