1. The "Tea-First" Morning Routine
For many, the day doesn't start without a piping hot cup of milk tea. However, drinking tea on an empty stomach is a primary trigger for acidity. It stimulates excessive gastric acid production, setting your stomach up for discomfort before the day has even begun.
2. The Late-Night Dining Trap
Whether it’s work deadlines or social outings, eating late at night—sometimes as late as midnight—is a recipe for disaster. Late-night meals force your digestive system to work overtime while your body is trying to rest, leading to sluggish digestion and acidic mornings.
3. The Cold Water Mistake
Digestion requires "gastric fire" to break down food efficiently. Drinking ice-cold water immediately before or after a meal acts like a wet blanket on this process. It slows down digestion and can cause your system to produce gas and bloating as food sits in the stomach for too long.
4. Overloading Your Plate
The "eat until you're stuffed" mentality is a common cause of digestive distress. Instead of one massive meal, aim for smaller, more frequent portions. A good rule of thumb is the 80% rule: stop eating once you feel satisfied, not full. Overeating doesn't just lead to weight gain—it overwhelms your digestive enzymes.
5. Lying Down After Dinner
It is incredibly tempting to hit the couch or bed right after a heavy meal, but this is a major "no-no." Lying down immediately after eating allows stomach acid to creep back up into your esophagus. This is the fastest route to acid reflux, heartburn, and intense belching. Instead, take a short, gentle stroll after dinner to help your body process the meal.
6. Excessive Caffeine Consumption
While tea and coffee are social staples, overdoing it is hard on your stomach lining. Whether it's the third cup of coffee at the office or constant tea breaks during gossip sessions, excess caffeine increases stomach heat and is a frequent culprit behind chronic heartburn.
