Women’s T20 World Cup 2026: India’s Shree Charani Finishes as Tournament’s Highest Wicket-Taker

The ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 concluded with Australia once again lifting the trophy after defeating England by seven wickets in the final at Lord’s. While India’s campaign ended without a title, young spinner Shree Charani emerged as one of the tournament’s biggest stars by finishing as the leading wicket-taker.

The 21-year-old left-arm spinner claimed 14 wickets in just five matches, ending the tournament with the highest wicket tally despite India not progressing to the final stages. Her outstanding performance made her one of the standout bowlers of the competition.

Charani Shines on World Cup Debut

Playing in her first-ever Women’s T20 World Cup, Shree Charani impressed with remarkable consistency. She picked up 14 wickets at an average of 8.35, maintained a strike rate of 8.57, and conceded runs at an economy rate of 5.85, giving away only 117 runs in 20 overs.

Her performance was particularly noteworthy as she achieved the feat in only five matches. Had India advanced to the semi-finals or final, Charani would have had the opportunity to challenge the tournament record for the most wickets in a single Women’s T20 World Cup.

With her tally of 14 wickets, Charani also became the highest wicket-taker in a Women's T20 World Cup on debut, making her campaign one to remember.

Other Leading Wicket-Takers

Australia captain Sophie Molineux and Pakistan captain Fatima Sana finished joint second on the wicket-taking charts with 11 wickets each. Molineux matched Fatima's tally by taking a wicket in the final.

England spinner Sophie Ecclestone and West Indies captain Hayley Matthews shared third place with 10 wickets apiece.

Although India fell short of winning the title, Shree Charani's impressive bowling performances provided a major positive for the team and highlighted the emergence of another promising talent in Indian women's cricket.
