RCB vs SRH IPL 2026 First Match: The first match of IPL 2026 will be played between RCB and SRH. But this very first match seems to be facing complications.
IPL 2026 will begin on March 28th. The BCCI announced the schedule for the upcoming season of the tournament on Wednesday (March 11th). Currently, the schedule for the first phase of 20 matches has been released, with the first match between Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SHR) set to be played at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. However, the venue change for the first match appears to be a problem.
The matter is that when the first phase of the schedule was announced, the release stated that the matches in Bengaluru would be subject to the approval of a special committee. If for some reason the matches in Bengaluru are not approved, then a change of venue could be considered.
What was said about the event to be held in Bengaluru?
The schedule release reads with a note point, "The matches to be held in Bengaluru are subject to the approval of the Expert Committee constituted by the Government of Karnataka. The Committee will inspect and meet at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium on March 13, 2026, during which a full-scale mock demonstration of match day arrangements will be conducted to assess the stadium's readiness to host IPL matches."
Now, everything depends on the meeting. If the decision in the meeting is not in favor of the stadium, then a change of venue could be considered. The release also stated that this season, RCB will play five of its home matches in Bengaluru and the remaining two in Raipur. It will be interesting to see what decision is made regarding the matches to be held in Bengaluru.
Screw stuck due to stampede
In the last IPL, 2025, RCB won the title. This was Bengaluru's first IPL trophy, followed by a victory parade in Bengaluru. During this parade, a stampede outside the stadium claimed the lives of 11 people, and several others were injured. This has raised questions about IPL matches being held in Bengaluru. Previously, matches for the 2026 T20 World Cup were also moved from Bengaluru.
