Hanuman Ji is called "Chiranjeevi" because, according to Hindu scriptures, he is still alive and working on earth to protect dharma. "Chiranjeevi" means one who will live for a long time or for ages. Hanuman Ji is not only considered a symbol of strength, wisdom, and devotion, but he is also a living example of immortal devotion.
How did Hanuman Ji get the boon of immortality?
According to the Ramayana, after the victory over Lanka, Lord Rama granted Hanuman Ji the boon of immortality for his unparalleled service. Rama said, "As long as my name and Rama's story live on earth, you too will live on." Even today, statues of Hanuman Ji are placed wherever Rama Kathas are held. Devotees believe that Hanuman Ji actually comes there to listen to Rama's stories. This has led to the belief that Hanuman Ji will always be present on earth to protect Rama's devotees and uphold Dharma.
