If you wake up in the morning and find your voice a little hoarse, deep, or raspy, don't worry. This is normal. Your voice may sound a little different in the morning due to changes in your body that occur during sleep.
1. There may be mild swelling in the throat
When we sleep, fluid can accumulate in certain parts of the body. This can cause slight swelling in the throat and vocal cords. This can cause a hoarse or altered voice in the morning.
2. Throat becomes dry
We often avoid drinking water for several hours before bedtime, which can dry out our throat and make our voice hoarse or rough.
Sleeping with your mouth open can make your throat even drier, making your voice sound hoarse or hoarse in the morning.
3. Mucus may accumulate in the throat
Mucus can accumulate and thicken slightly in the throat while you sleep. This mucus affects the vibration of the vocal cords, causing your voice to sound muffled for a short time.
4. Rests the vocal cords overnight
We don't talk while we sleep, so the vocal cords are at rest for several hours. It may take a while for them to vibrate normally when we suddenly start speaking in the morning.
Usually, after drinking water, clearing your throat, and talking for a while, your voice gradually returns to normal. The dryness and mucus in your throat also begin to subside.
Therefore, a slightly different or hoarse voice upon waking in the morning is usually not a cause for concern , especially if the voice returns to normal after drinking water and speaking after some time.
