"Why are you leaving, brother?" — Siraj's heartfelt moment with Bumrah wins hearts after Oval Test Day 2

Jasprit Bumrah, one of India’s most experienced pacers, missed the fifth Test against England on the advice of the medical team. As he left the squad, his teammate and close friend Mohammad Siraj had an emotional moment with him — now winning hearts across the internet.

Siraj’s emotional question, Bumrah’s touching reply

In a video shared by the BCCI after Day 2 of the Oval Test, Siraj revealed a heartfelt exchange he had with Bumrah.

“I asked Jassi bhai, ‘Why are you leaving? If I take 5 wickets, who will I hug?’”

Bumrah smiled and replied: “Main yahin hoon, tu 5 wicket le.” ("I’m right here, you go get 5 wickets.")

This simple yet emotional conversation shows the bond and belief the Indian pace duo shares, both on and off the field.

Siraj leading the way in England

Siraj further shared his joy of playing in England, highlighting how helpful the conditions are for fast bowlers.
He said, “It feels great to be the highest wicket-taker in the series, but it’ll feel even better if we win the match.”

So far, Siraj has taken 18 wickets in five Tests at an average of 35.67, making him the leading wicket-taker of the series. England’s Ben Stokes follows closely with 17 wickets in four matches.

India’s fightback in the Oval Test

After India posted 224 in their first innings, England managed 247, taking a slender 23-run lead. Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, and Akash Deep were key to India’s bowling response, with Prasidh bagging four wickets.

By stumps on Day 2, India were 75/2 in the second innings, with a lead of 52 runs.

  • Yashasvi Jaiswal stood firm with 51 not out*

  • KL Rahul (7) and Sai Sudharsan (11) were the two wickets to fall

  • Akash Deep was unbeaten on 4 at the other end

As the Test moves into a crucial third day, India will look to stretch their lead and seal a memorable series victory — with Bumrah cheering from the sidelines.
