Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Police constable Sachin Yadav finished fourth in the javelin throw final of the 2025 World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, Japan, on Thursday (September 18). Yadav, a resident of Khekra village in the Baghpat district, threw the javelin 86.27 meters, finishing four places ahead of Olympic gold medalist Neeraj Chopra. Neeraj Chopra finished eighth, with a throw of 84.03 meters.

Who is Sachin Yadav: Sachin Yadav, a resident of Khekra village near Baghpat in Uttar Pradesh, belongs to a farming family. He has been passionate about javelin throwing since childhood. In Delhi, he trained under renowned javelin thrower Nawal Singh. In 2023, he was selected as a constable in the UP Police through the sports quota.

What was his achievement: Sachin recently placed fourth in the javelin throw final at the 2025 World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, Japan. Sachin Yadav consistently outperformed Neeraj Chopra in this competition.

Neeraj, the 2023 World Champion and 2020 Olympic gold medalist, finished eighth in the event. Sachin, however, finished fourth with a best throw of 86.27 meters, missing out on the bronze medal by just 0.40 meters.

Won a silver medal at the Asian Athletics Championships:

 Previously, Sachin Yadav won a silver medal at the 2025 Asian Athletics Championships, where he achieved a distance of 85.16 meters. He will be honored by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath for this achievement.
