A new weather system is moving towards India's northern mountains, bringing snow to the higher elevations. Dry weather is expected in the central part of the country for the next seven days. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather warning for the western Himalayan region.

Where will it rain?
A western disturbance is expected to enter the western Himalayan region on Monday (February 9th). This will further intensify the cold. Scattered rain or snowfall is expected in Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh today. Rain is also expected in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand between February 9th and 11th.

Snow in the mountains, relief from severe cold in the plains.
According to the IMD, the weather could worsen by February 10th, with the weather department predicting thunderstorms, lightning, and winds of up to 30 to 40 kilometers per hour in the higher elevations. While snowfall is forecast in the mountains, relief from the severe cold is expected in the plains. Minimum temperatures in northwest India are expected to rise by about 2 degrees Celsius over the next two days.

Fatehpur in eastern Rajasthan recorded the lowest temperature of 4.9 degrees Celsius on Saturday. Central India will also see temperatures rise by 2 to 4 degrees Celsius in the coming days, while maximum temperatures in Delhi and the National Capital Region will remain stable between 23 and 26 degrees Celsius.

Dense fog in North India

Visibility in Bareilly and Gorakhpur has dropped to zero meters, making driving extremely dangerous. Apart from North India, fog is also expected in Tamil Nadu, Bihar and parts of Northeast India this morning.
