Meta has launched WhatsApp Plus in India, offering a paid subscription tier priced at ₹79 per month. This plan adds a set of premium features focused on personalization and chat management, while keeping WhatsApp's core messaging and calling services unchanged.
The subscription is part of Meta's larger push into paid offerings across its family of apps, including Facebook and Instagram.
Custom Theme
One of the key features of WhatsApp Plus is access to custom themes. Subscribers can personalize the look of the app with additional visual options beyond those available in the standard version.
Premium Stickers
This subscription includes access to exclusive sticker packs available only to WhatsApp Plus users. These are designed to expand the range of stickers available in chats.
Custom ringtones and notification sounds
WhatsApp Plus subscribers can choose from additional ringtone and notification sound options, giving them more control over how calls and messages are signaled on their devices.
More pinned chats
Free WhatsApp users can pin a limited number of chats. WhatsApp Plus increases that limit, allowing subscribers to pin more conversations to the top of their chat list.
Improved chat list customization
Subscribers can organize and customize chat lists with extra tools to make managing conversations easier.
Key features will remain free
The subscription does not affect WhatsApp's core functionality. Users can continue to send messages, make voice and video calls, create groups, share media, and use end-to-end encryption without paying for the service.
Part of a larger Meta subscription push
WhatsApp Plus is launching alongside Instagram Plus and Facebook Plus, which offer extra features like profile customisation, audience insights and better story controls.
Meta is also testing subscription offerings as part of a larger initiative called Meta One, which includes premium plans for AI users, creators, and businesses.
For now, WhatsApp Plus focuses primarily on personalization and chat-management features, giving users the option to pay for extra functionality while still using the app's core communication services for free.
