Angad's Strength: An incident from before the Ramayana war still baffles people today: Angada's foot, which no warrior in Lanka could lift. What was so special about Angad's foot? Was it simply strength, or is there a deeper message behind it?
Last attempt at peace before the war
This scene takes place when Lord Rama’s army had reached the gates of Lanka. The bridge had been built, and the monkey army had crossed the ocean. Even when war seemed inevitable, Lord Rama chose the path of peace. He wanted to give Ravana one last chance to repent for his sins. This is why it was decided to send a messenger to Lanka before the battle.
Why did Angad become the messenger and not Hanuman?
Everyone's first thought was to send Hanuman, as he had been to Lanka before and was unparalleled in strength and intelligence. But Lord Rama rejected this proposal. He believed that if Hanuman was sent, the enemy would think that he was the only great warrior in Rama's army. Therefore, he decided to appoint Angada as the messenger.
Qualities of a Royal Messenger
An ambassador should be tactful, humble, fearless, loyal, and devoted to his master. He should also be able to transcend personal feelings and deliver the message. Angada embodied all these qualities. He was powerful, but not arrogant. He was fearless, yet dignified.
Lord Rama's test and Angad's devotion
By choosing Angada, Lord Rama accomplished two objectives. First, he demonstrated that Angada was worthy of becoming the future king of Kishkindha. Second, he tested his devotion and loyalty. Ravana tried to win Angada over to his side by citing his old friendship with Vali, but Angad rejected his advances. This is where he passed the Lord's test.
Angada's foot and Lanka's helplessness
When Angada planted his foot firmly on the ground in the assembly and challenged the one who could shake it, the whole of Lanka was defeated. It wasn't just physical strength.
It was his devotion to Lord Rama that gave Angada such determination that he could challenge the entire Lanka.
Pay attention
There is a deep meaning behind everything God does. The story of Angada teaches us that true power comes from devotion, faith, and righteousness. If we remain vigilant, every event can teach us something new.
