A tragic stampede during Royal Challengers Bangalore’s IPL 2025 victory parade in Bengaluru claimed 11 lives, shocking the cricket community. The BCCI has expressed strong condemnation and is preparing to take serious action. BCCI Secretary Devjit Saikia has stated that the board will not remain silent on such incidents and plans to introduce new regulations to prevent a recurrence.
BCCI Secretary’s Strong Statement
Devjit Saikia told Cricbuzz, “At some point the BCCI will have to do something. We cannot remain silent.” He added, “Although it was a private event of RCB, as the governing body of cricket in India, the BCCI is responsible. We will work to ensure such tragedies do not happen again.”
This comes after the horrific incident on June 5 near the Chinnaswamy Stadium, where the stampede during the victory celebration led to 11 deaths and multiple injuries. Following the tragedy, the Karnataka government has launched an investigation, with arrests made against police personnel and RCB officials.
What’s Next from BCCI?
The BCCI is reportedly working on creating a system or guidelines to regulate IPL victory celebrations to avoid such incidents. Details about how this system will function have not been disclosed yet, but the issue will be taken very seriously.
Team India’s head coach Gautam Gambhir has also voiced concerns, expressing his opposition to roadshows. Gambhir emphasized that “life is more important than celebration,” reflecting the sentiment that safety must come before festivities.
