Vaibhav Suryavanshi Could Dull Pakistan’s Celebration Within 24 Hours

Pakistan is currently celebrating a new world record in Under-19 cricket, but that excitement may not last long. India’s young batting sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi has a golden opportunity to turn the spotlight back on himself—and it could happen within just 24 hours.

Why Is Pakistan Celebrating?

Pakistan’s joy stems from a remarkable innings by Under-19 batter Sameer Minhas, who recently broke the world record for the fastest century in Under-19 ODIs. During the tri-series final played on January 6, Minhas smashed a century in just 41 balls, surpassing the previous record held by Vaibhav Suryavanshi.

The Record Vaibhav Once Held

Before Minhas’ knock, the record belonged to Vaibhav Suryavanshi. In July last year, he scored a stunning 143 runs against England Under-19, reaching his century in 52 balls. That explosive innings, which included 10 sixes, had set a new benchmark in Under-19 ODI cricket.

Minhas Breaks the Record—But Against Weaker Opposition

Sameer Minhas broke the record by 11 balls, but his achievement came against Zimbabwe Under-19, a side considered far less competitive than England Under-19. Chasing a target of 159, Minhas remained unbeaten on 114 off 51 balls, completing his century in just 41 deliveries.

Vaibhav’s Chance to Steal the Limelight Again

Pakistan may be enjoying the moment, but the celebrations could be short-lived. On January 7, India Under-19 face South Africa Under-19 in the third and final ODI of the series. In the previous match against South Africa Under-19, Vaibhav hammered 10 sixes in just 24 balls, underlining his devastating form.
