Toyota India has announced a voluntary recall of its Urban Cruiser Hyryder midsize SUV due to a potential defect in the analog fuel level indicator. A total of 11,529 units manufactured between December 9, 2024 and April 29, 2025 have been flagged for inspection.
What’s the issue?
Reports indicate that in some Hyryder units, the fuel gauge may fail to show the correct petrol level. In certain cases, the low-fuel warning light may also not turn on at the right time. This can leave drivers unaware that the fuel level is critically low, increasing the chances of the vehicle stalling unexpectedly. While Toyota maintains that the number of complaints is very small, the recall has been initiated as a precautionary safety measure.
How will the recall be carried out?
Owners of affected vehicles will be contacted by Toyota dealerships and asked to visit for a detailed inspection. Technicians will check the SUV’s combination meter, and if any defect is detected, the component will be replaced at no cost. The entire process—including inspection and replacement—will be free for customers.
Toyota dealers will directly communicate with owners. Additionally, customers can verify whether their vehicle is part of the recall by entering their VIN on Toyota’s official recall website.
Link to the Grand Vitara
Interestingly, Maruti Suzuki recently recalled 39,506 units of the Grand Vitara for the same issue. Since the Hyryder and Grand Vitara share several electronic and mechanical components under the Toyota-Maruti partnership, both models have been affected by the same faulty fuel indicator.
