In a thrilling display during the first T20 international between Australia and South Africa on August 10, 2025, Australian all-rounder Tim David shattered Suryakumar Yadav’s world record for the highest strike rate in T20 Internationals. David not only achieved this remarkable feat but also faced the most balls in an innings in his T20 career for the first time.
Batting first, Australia posted a total of 178 runs in 20 overs, with Tim David contributing a monumental 83 runs. His innings featured 12 boundaries, including 8 towering sixes, and he faced 52 balls—marking his first instance of crossing 50 balls in a T20 innings. His previous highest ball count in T20 was 46, scored against Hong Kong in 2020.
David’s strike rate in this match surged to 167.37, edging out Suryakumar Yadav’s former record of 167.07, establishing him as the new record-holder for the highest strike rate in T20I cricket.
South Africa, chasing 179, managed 161 for 9 wickets in their allotted 20 overs, falling short by 17 runs. Tim David’s outstanding performance earned him the Player of the Match award and helped Australia take a 1-0 lead in the three-match T20 series.
This innings cements Tim David's place among the most explosive T20 batsmen internationally and showcases his growing influence in Australia’s cricketing lineup.
