Tamil Nadu: In Tirupattur, love affairs sparked on social media have led to hundreds of child marriages, resulting in the pregnancy of a large number of minor girls. Police have filed cases against 300 youths.
Tamil Nadu News: In Tamil Nadu's Tirupattur district, a large number of child marriages have taken place due to love affairs that began on social media, resulting in the pregnancy of hundreds of minor girls. Police have filed cases against 300 young people in this matter, and the investigation has revealed this shocking revelation.
Hundreds of child marriages were recorded in the Ambur, Vaniyambadi, Natrumpalli, and Tirupattur taluks of Tirupattur district during 2025. Official investigations revealed that most of these marriages were the result of love affairs fostered through social media platforms like Instagram, Facebook, and WhatsApp, while many couples even traveled outside the state for love marriages.
Child marriages increase pregnancy cases in hospitals
The district administration has attempted to prevent many child marriages, but despite this, cases of love marriages and child marriages continue to emerge. As a result, cases of pregnancies and deliveries involving minor girls have rapidly increased in the district's government hospitals.
Case filed against parents and youth
In light of this shocking situation, the police have filed cases against the parents and the young men involved. The District Collector has issued strict instructions to officials to take immediate legal action if any child marriage is reported in the future. This case once again raises the question of how the growing influence of social media and a lack of social awareness are endangering the future of children.
