The ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026 has reached its final stage, with the title clash set between the India national cricket team and the New Zealand national cricket team. The final will be played on March 8 at the Narendra Modi Stadium, where both teams will compete not only for the trophy but also for a massive prize purse worth crores of rupees.
Crores Guaranteed Even Before the Final
Even before the result of the final is announced, both teams are guaranteed substantial prize money. Although the International Cricket Council has not yet officially declared the prize pool for the 2026 edition, estimates based on previous tournaments suggest that the runner-up team could receive around $1.28 million (approximately ₹12 crore).
This means that even if India finishes second, the team will still earn crores in prize money.
Record Prize Pool in Previous Edition
The highest prize distribution in T20 World Cup history occurred in the 2024 edition, where the total prize pool reached $11.25 million (around ₹103 crore).
-
Champion: $2.45 million
-
Runner-up: $1.28 million
India won the 2024 title and received the champion’s prize money along with additional rewards.
Possible Bonus from BCCI
After India’s victory in the 2024 tournament, the Board of Control for Cricket in India announced a special reward of ₹125 crore for the players and support staff.
If India manages to win the 2026 title as well, a similar or even bigger reward could be announced, making the celebration even grander.
Historic Opportunity for India
The upcoming final also presents several historic possibilities for the Indian team:
-
India could become the first team to reach the T20 World Cup final four times.
-
The team has a chance to win back-to-back T20 World Cup titles, something no nation has achieved so far.
-
If India wins the tournament in Ahmedabad, it would also mark the first time a team has won a T20 World Cup on home soil.
