The news of Rinku Singh leaving India camp has saddened the cricket lovers. In the middle of T20 World Cup 2026, the best batsman of Indian team, Rinku Singh has suddenly returned to his home. His father Khanchand Singh's health has deteriorated a lot. His father has been admitted to a local hospital in Greater Noida. Due to this sudden news from home, Rinku had to leave the national team camp immediately. It has come to light that his father's condition remains very serious and he has been put on ventilator to help him breathe. This is not at all good news for the Indian team before the important match of India vs Zimbabwe.
Sudden departure from Chennai
Rinku Singh arrived in Chennai with the rest of the Indian team on Monday, February 23rd. He flew to Chennai just a day after India's Super 8 match. However, he had to leave Chennai early on Tuesday morning. He had to return to Greater Noida to care for his father. His father is said to be in critical condition and is on a ventilator. Rinku also missed the team's practice session on Tuesday evening. This sudden family issue has kept him away from cricket.
Match against Zimbabwe
It seems very unlikely that Rinku Singh will be able to play in the crucial match against Zimbabwe on February 26th. The team will definitely miss him in this big match in Chennai. This problem has come to light at a very crucial and important time in the tournament. After losing to South Africa in their first Super 8 match, the Indian team is already under immense pressure. The team is facing a serious threat of early elimination from the tournament. Now they will face a Zimbabwe team that is adept at causing major upsets.
Zimbabwe have a strong team
Zimbabwe had a stellar performance in the group stage. They defeated established champions like Australia and Sri Lanka to advance to the Super 8s. Captained by Sikandar Raza, the team lost their first Super 8 match to the West Indies. Now, they will look to improve on their previous record and put up a much better performance in their next match against India.
Axar Patel may return
If Rinku Singh is unavailable for this crucial match against Zimbabwe, the Indian team could face a major change. Axar Patel could be included in his place. Patel is also the team's vice-captain. He was not given a chance to play in the match against South Africa. This decision by the team management was heavily criticized by cricket experts and general fans. Now, in Rinku's absence, Axar may get a chance to play.
The way forward
In the current T20 World Cup, the Indian team had won 12 consecutive matches. However, in the first Super 8 match played in Ahmedabad, South Africa defeated India by 76 runs. This heavy defeat halted India's winning streak. This defeat also significantly damaged India's net run rate. Now, the former champion Indian team faces a significant risk of being eliminated from the semi-final race. Given the current situation, India will have to win both of its remaining matches by a significant margin. Only then will they be able to keep alive their hopes of reaching the semi-finals of the 2026 World Cup.
